Born eight years before the ratification of the 19th Amendment, my dear mother always cherished the right to vote.

Throughout her life, she was grateful to be a citizen of the United States of America. For her, the right to vote for the people of their choosing was an important way for citizens to give back to the nation that gave them many precious rights.  She believed that voting represented an ultimate freedom of expression and that the right to vote was a treasure and a true privilege.  She could remember in great detail the first time she voted.

My mother felt very fortunate to meet, fall in love with and marry a man who shared her great love of country and respect for the rights it gave its people — including the right to vote.  Mother was absolutely delighted that voting rights were further expanded  on July 5, 1971, when her husband, my father, formally certified the 26th Amendment of the Constitution, which granted 18-year-olds the right to vote!
